the LORD said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men who lapped will I save you, and I deliver the Midianites into your hands. (Judges 7:7)
God has reduced the number of men of Gideon in order to get the men he could use for His glory. Finally, the 32,000 men who responded to the call of Gideon, the fact remains that 300. God has disqualified a majority of two ways. He eliminated those who feared and those who were not paying attention.
The men who fled during the battle fear and fear can spread by contagion.
GOD KNOWS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FEAR THE FOCUS ON THE PROBLEM OR ON THE POWER THE ENEMY.
Two thirds of Gideon's army have returned home after the first test, leaving 10,000 men. God then said, "Gideon, men with thee are too many. Take the bank of the river and observe how they drink. All those who kneel and dip their heads in water to drink are disqualified. " Only 300 lapped water by bringing it to the mouth with their hands while continuing to monitor the area. His army had found God.
Today God is seeking men who are courageous and alert. A courage that has its origin in faith will lead you to fix eyes on God. He is also looking for men who are alert and aware of the war raging around them. Men who, even when they are involved in the necessities of life - be it drinking water or work for a living - are always aware of the larger issues of spiritual warfare in which we are all committed.

Father, help us grow in faith without worry, knowing that if You are for us, no man can oppose us. May we get used to accomplish Your purposes and Your will.
