All who were in distress, creditors who had or were discontented, gathered themselves to him, and he became their leader. He had with him about four hundred men. (1 Samuel 22:2)
God anointed David to be king. However, Saul is still on the throne. And because Saul wants to cling to what is no longer his, and he tries to kill David, David became a fugitive.
Those who have joined David are a bunch of marginal left-nots - unlikely candidate to become the mighty men of David. However, God has matured and has used them and David to establish the kingdom of Israel.
There is an interesting parallel here to train. God has ordained His Son, Jesus Christ for His reign as King on earth, but Satan is still on the throne. And Satan does his best to cling to the kingdom. Jesus gathered around him men - unlikely candidates, that's for sure - but men through whom he intends to establish His kingdom and His kingdom come on earth.
GOD IS LOOKING FOR MEN AND WOMEN WHO HAVE THE HEART OPEN AND AVAILABLE TO THOSE WHO WANT HIM TO SAY "HERE I AM, LORD. I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH MY LIFE AS IS LORD. I WISH YOU THE GIVE FULL. "
discontent When you take a total commitment to Jesus Christ, it's a great frustration because it leads to progress.
