David said: "Fear not! For sure, I'll use kindness to you because of your father Jonathan. I will make all the land of Saul your father, and thou shalt eat always at my table. " (2 Samuel 9:7)
Several years ago, David made a covenant with Jonathan, the son of Saul. David had promised, out of respect for Jonathan, when he acceded to the throne, he would treat the family of Saul with great kindness. So, once David came to the throne, he was blessed and that God did prosper, David sought a descendant of Saul to show him kindness.
As a descendant of David trying to show her kindness, God seeks the lost to show the overflowing richness of His love and His goodness towards them in Jesus Christ. That's what makes Christianity different religions. In religions men seek God. In Christianity, God seeks the lost men.
Mephibosheth was actually scared when we brought him to David, because he did not know the intentions of David. So often we mistake about God and we imagine that He is angry against us or we disgusted. We believe that He seeks us to chastise us severely. But we are wrong.
David wanted bless Mephibosheth out of respect for Jonathan. God wants to bless us for the sake of Christ.
THIS IS NOT BECAUSE WE DESERVE - THAT'S BECAUSE WE WANT JESUS TO LEGACY.
Like Mephibosheth dined at the king's table as a member of the royal family, we have also been introduced into the family of God and invited to sit at His table.
